“He’s a cuckold” – Ag. Fight – MMA, UFC, Boxing and More

At the end of 2023, Ian Machado Garry had his intimate life exposed and came to fear for the integrity of his family. At the time, two athletes took advantage of the moment to join in and provoke the Irishman, thus becoming his enemies. One of them was Colby Covington who, in an exclusive interview with the news team at Ag Fightexplained the origin of his disagreement with 'The Future' and, as usual, took the opportunity to needle the welterweight prospect (77 kg) once again.

It all started in November of that season, when Ian Machado Garry had his personal life exposed on social media through some profiles linked to the world of fights on 'X' (formerly Twitter), which suggested that Brazilian Layla, 41 years old, his wife , would have married the young UFC promise, aged 27, out of 'opportunism', considering that she would have written a book called 'How to be a WAG' ('How to be a WAG?', slang used for wives and athletes' girlfriends).

The buzz gained even more strength after Sean Strickland, then middleweight champion (84 kg), shared the story on his social networks and even added that Ian was supposedly living with his wife's ex-husband. The version, even if unproven, was enough for Colby, another UFC loudmouth, to take advantage of the moment to also needle the Irishman.

“I just told the truth, man. I didn't lie. I didn't say anything that was a lie. He's a cuckold. He lives in the same house with his wife and his wife's ex-husband. Don't you think that's a little strange? If I divorced a woman and moved in with her and her new husband. This is strange. So I'm just calling things by name, I'm speaking facts. I'm not saying anything bad about the wife. She wants to be famous, quoting Shakespeare, she went after Sean Strickland, putting herself in the spotlight in every way possible. And as for the fight with him (Ian), he's just a cuckold. I don't like cuckolds, people who sit in the corner and watch their wife having sex with other guys, it's weird. I would like to slap him for thatand I think the fans would love that, because everyone hates him,” said Covington.

Requirements to face disaffection

On that occasion, because he was in the same weight class as Ian, Colby became the target of numerous challenges. In his style, the loud-mouthed American listed three demands that would make him accept the request to face the Irish. And the tasks involved, of course, his wife Layla's name. Without complying with the conditions, Garry accused Covington of running away from the confrontation and refusing the fight numerous times in alleged negotiations with the UFC's top brass. 'Chaos', as he is known, denies all of the disaffection's allegations.

“No, that's a lie. He (Ian) is talking a lot of nonsense, this is completely false. The UFC never presented or offered me this fight. He doesn't have that kind of power to go to the UFC and say, 'Hey, this is the fight I want.' He didn't do anything, he didn't defeat high-level fighters. I told him, if you want to fight me, all you had to do was meet three easy stipulations. Activate comments (on social media). Your wife wants to be famous, put her in one of my videos and make her beg me to get that fight. He couldn't do those three easy things, so he won't get the fight. I won't beg for a fight with him because he's a nobody”, explained the American.

Frictions aside, Colby will compete again this Saturday (14), in the main fight of UFC Tampa. Away from the octagons for a year, the American will face off against prospect Joaquin Buckley. In addition to a duel of generations, the clash that leads the last Ultimate event in 2024 promises to be a clash of styles, as Covington specializes in grappling, while his opponent, who has great explosive power in striking, is a knockout artist born.
