UFC president talks about Conor McGregor's conviction
At the end of November, Conor McGregor, the biggest star MMA has ever produced, was found guilty of committing sexual assault against Nikita Hand in a social case filed in Dublin Court, Ireland. Almost three weeks after the conviction of 'Notorious', Dana White finally broke his silence on the subject. However, in an evasive manner, the UFC president discussed the conviction of the company's former featherweight (66 kg) and lightweight (70 kg) champion.
Last Saturday (7), during the press conference held after UFC 310, the manager was asked what his reaction was to McGregor's conviction. Visibly uncomfortable with the question, Dana highlighted that he would have already taken a stance on the episode if he had anything to comment. Furthermore, the president of Ultimate once again projected, albeit somewhat unenthusiastically, a date for Conor's eventual return to the most famous octagon in the world.
“What do you mean, what is my reaction (to the conviction)? If I had a comment to make (about the case), I would have already made it. He hasn't fought here in... how long? (laughter). Well, if he really fights, it will be sometime next year”, declared the UFC president, without wanting to take a position in the midst of the controversy.
Career affected?
With a career full of controversies outside the octagon and lícito disputes, the recent verdict of guilty of sexual assault further undermines McGregor's image. However, in theory, the trial would not affect the Irishman's eventual return to the UFC, as he will not suffer criminal sanctions, only ordered to compensate the victim in the case. Despite being free to compete, Conor is already starring in an extensive soap opera about his possible return to action. The MMA star hasn't been in action for over three years and his future in combat sports becomes more uncertain every day.
